Let F=ℓ2(Nn,C)F=\ell^2(\mathbb{N}^n,\mathbb{C})F=ℓ2(Nn,C) be the nnn-mode Fock space with number basis (∣k⟩)k∈Nn(|k\rangle)_{k\in\mathbb{N}^n}(∣k⟩)k∈Nn, total number ∣k∣=k1+⋯+kn|k|=k_1+\dots+k_n∣k∣=k1+⋯+kn, annihilation operators aja_jaj, and the diagonal weight N^=1+∑jaj†aj\hat N=1+\sum_ja_j^\dagger a_jN^=1+∑jaj†aj, i.e. N^∣k⟩=(1+∣k∣)∣k⟩\hat N|k\rangle=(1+|k|)|k\rangleN^∣k⟩=(1+∣k∣)∣k⟩. A state is a positive bounded operator on FFF whose number-basis diagonal sums to 111. For a state ρ\rhoρ write S(ρ)=−Tr⁡ρlog⁡ρS(\rho)=-\operatorname{Tr}\rho\log\rhoS(ρ)=−Trρlogρ, E(ρ)=∑k∣k∣ ρkkE(\rho)=\sum_k|k|\,\rho_{kk}E(ρ)=∑k∣k∣ρkk and M4(ρ)=∑k(1+∣k∣)4ρkkM_4(\rho)=\sum_k(1+|k|)^4\rho_{kk}M4(ρ)=∑k(1+∣k∣)4ρkk; ρ\rhoρ has finite mmm-th moment if ∑k(1+∣k∣)mρkk<∞\sum_k(1+|k|)^m\rho_{kk}<\infty∑k(1+∣k∣)mρkk<∞.

Fix η,δ,κ∈[0,1]\eta,\delta,\kappa\in[0,1]η,δ,κ∈[0,1] and states τD,τ0\tau_D,\tau_0τD,τ0, and for states ρ,σ\rho,\sigmaρ,σ put

ω(ρ,σ)=(1−κ) B1−δ(Bη(ρ,σ),τD)+κ τ0,\omega(\rho,\sigma)=(1-\kappa)\,\mathcal B_{1-\delta}\bigl(\mathcal B_\eta(\rho,\sigma),\tau_D\bigr)+\kappa\,\tau_0 ,ω(ρ,σ)=(1−κ)B1−δ(Bη(ρ,σ),τD)+κτ0,

where Bθ\mathcal B_\thetaBθ is the beam-splitter output at transmissivity θ\thetaθ. For a state μ\muμ with finite sixth moment, its canonical weighted columns are xmμ=N^3μ ∣m⟩x^\mu_m=\hat N^{3}\sqrt\mu\,|m\ranglexmμ=N^3μ∣m⟩ (m∈Nn)(m\in\mathbb{N}^n)(m∈Nn), so that ym=N^−3xmμ=μ∣m⟩y_m=\hat N^{-3}x^\mu_m=\sqrt\mu|m\rangleym=N^−3xmμ=μ∣m⟩.

For s∈Rs\in\mathbb{R}s∈R and a bounded operator ZZZ, the generator pairing is

Γs(x;Z)=∑j=1n∑l[(s+1)(⟨N^2ajyl,ZN^2ajyl⟩−12⟨N^2yl,ZN^2n^jyl⟩−12⟨N^2n^jyl,ZN^2yl⟩)+s(⟨N^2aj†yl,ZN^2aj†yl⟩−12⟨N^2yl,ZN^2(n^j+1)yl⟩−12⟨N^2(n^j+1)yl,ZN^2yl⟩)]\Gamma_s(x;Z)=\sum_{j=1}^n\sum_l\Bigl[(s+1)\Bigl(\langle\hat N^2a_jy_l,Z\hat N^2a_jy_l\rangle-\tfrac12\langle\hat N^2y_l,Z\hat N^2\hat n_jy_l\rangle-\tfrac12\langle\hat N^2\hat n_jy_l,Z\hat N^2y_l\rangle\Bigr)+s\Bigl(\langle\hat N^2a_j^\dagger y_l,Z\hat N^2a_j^\dagger y_l\rangle-\tfrac12\langle\hat N^2y_l,Z\hat N^2(\hat n_j+1)y_l\rangle-\tfrac12\langle\hat N^2(\hat n_j+1)y_l,Z\hat N^2y_l\rangle\Bigr)\Bigr]Γs(x;Z)=j=1∑nl∑[(s+1)(⟨N^2ajyl,ZN^2ajyl⟩−21⟨N^2yl,ZN^2n^jyl⟩−21⟨N^2n^jyl,ZN^2yl⟩)+s(⟨N^2aj†yl,ZN^2aj†yl⟩−21⟨N^2yl,ZN^2(n^j+1)yl⟩−21⟨N^2(n^j+1)yl,ZN^2yl⟩)]

with n^j=aj†aj\hat n_j=a_j^\dagger a_jn^j=aj†aj (all vectors lie in FFF because N^2ajN^−3\hat N^{2}a_j\hat N^{-3}N^2ajN^−3 etc. are bounded). Formally Γs(x;Z)=Tr⁡μ Ls∗(N^2ZN^2)\Gamma_s(x;Z)=\operatorname{Tr}\mu\,\mathcal L_s^*(\hat N^2Z\hat N^2)Γs(x;Z)=TrμLs∗(N^2ZN^2), where Ls∗(K)=∑j(s+1)(aj†Kaj−12{n^j,K})+s(ajKaj†−12{ajaj†,K})\mathcal L_s^*(K)=\sum_j(s+1)(a_j^\dagger Ka_j-\frac12\{\hat n_j,K\})+s(a_jKa_j^\dagger-\frac12\{a_ja_j^\dagger,K\})Ls∗(K)=∑j(s+1)(aj†Kaj−21{n^j,K})+s(ajKaj†−21{ajaj†,K}) is the Heisenberg generator of the thermal-noise semigroup with mean photon number sss.

For θ∈[0,1]\theta\in[0,1]θ∈[0,1], a state ν\nuν with finite fourth moment and a bounded TTT, let Cνθ(T)\mathcal C^{\theta}_{\nu}(T)Cνθ(T) and Cν′θ(T)\mathcal C'^{\theta}_{\nu}(T)Cν′θ(T) be the weighted conditional operators: with UθU_\thetaUθ the passive beam-splitter unitary of transmissivity θ\thetaθ on ℓ2(Nn×Nn)\ell^2(\mathbb{N}^n\times\mathbb{N}^n)ℓ2(Nn×Nn), they are defined by

Cνθ(T)=N^−2 Ψθ,ν∗(N^2TN^2) N^−2,⟨x,Ψθ,ν∗(K)x′⟩=∑m⟨Uθ(x⊗ν∣m⟩),(K⊗Id) Uθ(x′⊗ν∣m⟩)⟩,\mathcal C^\theta_\nu(T)=\hat N^{-2}\,\Psi^{*}_{\theta,\nu}\bigl(\hat N^{2}T\hat N^{2}\bigr)\,\hat N^{-2},\qquad \langle x,\Psi^*_{\theta,\nu}(K)x'\rangle=\sum_m\bigl\langle U_\theta(x\otimes\sqrt\nu|m\rangle),(K\otimes\mathrm{Id})\,U_\theta(x'\otimes\sqrt\nu|m\rangle)\bigr\rangle ,Cνθ(T)=N^−2Ψθ,ν∗(N^2TN^2)N^−2,⟨x,Ψθ,ν∗(K)x′⟩=m∑⟨Uθ(x⊗ν∣m⟩),(K⊗Id)Uθ(x′⊗ν∣m⟩)⟩,

and likewise Cν′θ\mathcal C'^\theta_\nuCν′θ with ν∣m⟩⊗x\sqrt\nu|m\rangle\otimes xν∣m⟩⊗x (the known state in the first port). (In the file these are written with bounded weight ratios, as ∑mWm∗(T⊗Id)Wm\sum_mW_m^*(T\otimes\mathrm{Id})W_m∑mWm∗(T⊗Id)Wm for bounded WmW_mWm, so they are bounded operators; the displayed formula is their meaning.)

Theorem. Let ρ,σ,τD,τ0\rho,\sigma,\tau_D,\tau_0ρ,σ,τD,τ0 have finite sixth moments, let a,b∈Ra,b\in\mathbb{R}a,b∈R, d>0d>0d>0, r0>0r_0>0r0>0 with

r0=(1−δ)(ηa+(1−η)b)+δ d,r_0=(1-\delta)\bigl(\eta a+(1-\eta)b\bigr)+\delta\,d ,r0=(1−δ)(ηa+(1−η)b)+δd,

and assume τD\tau_DτD and τ0\tau_0τ0 are the number-diagonal thermal states with mean photon numbers ddd and r0r_0r0 per mode (matrix entries ⟨k∣τD∣l⟩=δkl∏j1d+1(dd+1)kj\langle k|\tau_D|l\rangle=\delta_{kl}\prod_j\frac{1}{d+1}\bigl(\frac d{d+1}\bigr)^{k_j}⟨k∣τD∣l⟩=δkl∏jd+11(d+1d)kj, and similarly for τ0\tau_0τ0 with r0r_0r0). Then ω=ω(ρ,σ)\omega=\omega(\rho,\sigma)ω=ω(ρ,σ) has finite sixth moment, and for every bounded operator BBB

Γr0(xω;B)=(1−κ)[Γa(xρ; Cση CτD1−δB)+Γb(xσ; Cρ′η CτD1−δB)].\Gamma_{r_0}(x^{\omega};B)=(1-\kappa)\Bigl[\Gamma_a\bigl(x^{\rho};\,\mathcal C^\eta_\sigma\,\mathcal C^{1-\delta}_{\tau_D}B\bigr)+\Gamma_b\bigl(x^{\sigma};\,\mathcal C'^\eta_\rho\,\mathcal C^{1-\delta}_{\tau_D}B\bigr)\Bigr].Γr0(xω;B)=(1−κ)[Γa(xρ;CσηCτD1−δB)+Γb(xσ;Cρ′ηCτD1−δB)].

Formally: the thermal-noise generator with mean r0r_0r0, evaluated on the output, equals (1−κ)(1-\kappa)(1−κ) times the sum of the generators with means aaa and bbb acting on the two inputs, transported through the Heisenberg duals of the two beam splitters. The compatibility condition on r0r_0r0 says that r0r_0r0 is the output mean photon number when the inputs are thermal with means a,ba,ba,b; the κτ0\kappa\tau_0κτ0 component, being thermal with mean r0r_0r0, does not contribute.

Formalization Note The parameters are fields of the structure Regularization n (R.output is ω\omegaω); the canonical columns are WeightedColumns.canonical (built from weightedRoot 3), Γs\Gamma_sΓs is WeightedGenerator.pairing, and X.slice, X.sliceRight are C\mathcal CC, C′\mathcal C'C′ with the columns N^2ν∣m⟩\hat N^{2}\sqrt\nu|m\rangleN^2ν∣m⟩. The existence of the moment proof hm0 is part of the conclusion.
