For every real nonzero frequency α\alphaα, Tao's logarithmic triangular cutoff satisfies

∣∫Rη0(t)e(αt) dt∣≤48(2πα)2.\left|\int_{\mathbb R}\eta_0(t)e(\alpha t)\,dt\right|\le\frac{48}{(2\pi\alpha)^2}.∫Rη0(t)e(αt)dt≤(2πα)248.

The constant 484848 is the full total variation of the distributional second derivative, including all derivative jumps at 1/4,1/2,11/4,1/2,11/4,1/2,1. This second-order estimate supplements the existing first-order Fourier bound and provides the nonsmooth integration-by-parts ingredient needed in the explicit-formula tail estimates. It applies directly to the literal cutoff, without pretending that it is twice continuously differentiable.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
