Let PPP be a code projector and L\mathcal LL the group of logical unitaries, (I−P)UP=0(I-P)UP = 0(I−P)UP=0. Let A\mathcal AA be a closed subgroup of the unitary group. Then

B=A∩L\mathcal B = \mathcal A \cap \mathcal LB=A∩L

is a subgroup of the unitary group and is topologically closed.

By Cartan's closed-subgroup theorem, this makes B\mathcal BB a Lie subgroup of A\mathcal AA, which is how the paper states Lemma 2. It is applied with A=T\mathcal A = \mathcal TA=T, the product unitaries, to make the logical product unitaries G\mathcal GG a Lie group.

Formalization Note The paper's "Lie group of unitary operators" is read as a closed subgroup of the unitary group, and the conclusion "Lie subgroup" as "closed subgroup": Cartan's theorem is not in Mathlib, and closedness is the only property the paper's proof establishes.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
