Let F=ℓ2(Nn,C)F=\ell^2(\mathbb{N}^n,\mathbb{C})F=ℓ2(Nn,C) be the nnn-mode Fock space with number basis (∣k⟩)(|k\rangle)(∣k⟩), ∣k∣=k1+⋯+kn|k|=k_1+\dots+k_n∣k∣=k1+⋯+kn, annihilation operators aja_jaj, n^j=aj†aj\hat n_j=a_j^\dagger a_jn^j=aj†aj, and the diagonal weight N^=1+∑jn^j\hat N=1+\sum_j\hat n_jN^=1+∑jn^j (so N^∣k⟩=(1+∣k∣)∣k⟩\hat N|k\rangle=(1+|k|)|k\rangleN^∣k⟩=(1+∣k∣)∣k⟩). States are positive operators on FFF with number-basis diagonal summing to 111; E(ρ)=∑k∣k∣ρkkE(\rho)=\sum_k|k|\rho_{kk}E(ρ)=∑k∣k∣ρkk, and ρ\rhoρ has finite mmm-th moment if ∑k(1+∣k∣)mρkk<∞\sum_k(1+|k|)^m\rho_{kk}<\infty∑k(1+∣k∣)mρkk<∞. For r>0r>0r>0, τr\tau_rτr denotes the thermal state with mean photon number rrr per mode, ⟨k∣τr∣l⟩=δkl∏i1r+1(rr+1)ki\langle k|\tau_r|l\rangle=\delta_{kl}\prod_i\frac1{r+1}(\frac r{r+1})^{k_i}⟨k∣τr∣l⟩=δkl∏ir+11(r+1r)ki, and h(r)=log⁡(r+1)−log⁡rh(r)=\log(r+1)-\log rh(r)=log(r+1)−logr.

A spectral logarithm datum for a state ρ\rhoρ consists of a Hilbert basis (bj)j∈J(b_j)_{j\in J}(bj)j∈J of FFF and pj>0p_j>0pj>0 with ∑jpj=1\sum_jp_j=1∑jpj=1 and ρbj=pjbj\rho b_j=p_jb_jρbj=pjbj; spectral columns xj∈Fx_j\in Fxj∈F with ∑j∥xj∥2<∞\sum_j\|x_j\|^2<\infty∑j∥xj∥2<∞ and N^−3xj=pj bj\hat N^{-3}x_j=\sqrt{p_j}\,b_jN^−3xj=pjbj; and a bounded symmetric operator L\mathcal LL (the log sandwich) with

Re⁡⟨y,Ly⟩=∑j(−log⁡pj) ∣⟨bj,N^−2y⟩∣2(y∈F),L(N^−1xj)=(−log⁡pj) N^−5xj.\operatorname{Re}\langle y,\mathcal Ly\rangle=\sum_j(-\log p_j)\,\bigl|\langle b_j,\hat N^{-2}y\rangle\bigr|^2\quad(y\in F),\qquad \mathcal L(\hat N^{-1}x_j)=(-\log p_j)\,\hat N^{-5}x_j .Re⟨y,Ly⟩=j∑(−logpj)⟨bj,N^−2y⟩2(y∈F),L(N^−1xj)=(−logpj)N^−5xj.

Formally L=N^−2(−log⁡ρ)N^−2\mathcal L=\hat N^{-2}(-\log\rho)\hat N^{-2}L=N^−2(−logρ)N^−2.

Theorem. Let ρ\rhoρ be a state with finite sixth moment, let (bj)j∈J(b_j)_{j\in J}(bj)j∈J be a Hilbert basis of FFF and pj>0p_j>0pj>0 with ∑jpj=1\sum_jp_j=1∑jpj=1 and ρbj=pjbj\rho b_j=p_jb_jρbj=pjbj for all jjj. Let BBB be a positive bounded operator on FFF such that for all x∈Fx\in Fx∈F, in [0,∞][0,\infty][0,∞],

⟨x,Bx⟩=∑j∈J(−log⁡pj) ∣⟨bj,N^−2x⟩∣2.\langle x,Bx\rangle=\sum_{j\in J}(-\log p_j)\,\bigl|\langle b_j,\hat N^{-2}x\rangle\bigr|^2 .⟨x,Bx⟩=j∈J∑(−logpj)⟨bj,N^−2x⟩2.

Then there is a spectral logarithm datum for ρ\rhoρ whose index set is JJJ, whose basis is (bj)(b_j)(bj), whose probabilities are (pj)(p_j)(pj) and whose log sandwich is BBB.

Thus a positive operator that represents the quadratic form of N^−2(−log⁡ρ)N^−2\hat N^{-2}(-\log\rho)\hat N^{-2}N^−2(−logρ)N^−2 automatically has all the properties required of a log sandwich, and spectral columns exist once ρ\rhoρ has a finite sixth moment.

Formalization Note The datum is the structure SpectralLogData n ρ; since its index type is a field, the conclusion states G.J = J together with HEq for the basis and the probabilities. The form identity is an equality in ℝ≥0∞ (basisMoment), with N^−2\hat N^{-2}N^−2 = inverseWeight 2.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
