Suppose the prox map satisfies Assumption 2 with constant MMM and the starting point satisfies ∥x0∥≤M\|x_0\|\le M∥x0∥≤M. Run Algorithm 4 along any realization of the oracle samples. Then for every k≥1k\ge1k≥1 and every point x∗∈Rnx^*\in\mathbb R^nx∗∈Rn,

∥xkmd−x∗∥2+αk(1−αk)∥xk−1ag−xk−1∥2≤2(∥x∗∥2+2M2).\|x^{md}_k-x^*\|^2+\alpha_k(1-\alpha_k)\|x^{ag}_{k-1}-x_{k-1}\|^2\le2\big(\|x^*\|^2+2M^2\big).∥xkmd−x∗∥2+αk(1−αk)∥xk−1ag−xk−1∥2≤2(∥x∗∥2+2M2).

All iterates produced by prox steps lie in the MMM-ball, which turns the LfL_fLf-terms of the summed inequality into a constant.

Formalization Note The hypothesis ∥x0∥≤M\|x_0\|\le M∥x0∥≤M is added: at k=1k=1k=1 the bound uses ∥x0ag∥,∥x0∥≤M\|x^{ag}_0\|,\|x_0\|\le M∥x0ag∥,∥x0∥≤M, and x0x_0x0 is the input, not an output of P\mathcal PP, so Assumption 2 does not cover it. It holds whenever x0∈dom⁡Xx_0\in\operatorname{dom}\mathcal Xx0∈domX. The paper applies (2.52) at an optimal solution x∗x^*x∗; it holds for every point. Restated from mission 2 of this series.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
