Let K=C(x)[Y]/(Y4−(2−x4))K=\mathbb C(x)[Y]/(Y^4-(2-x^4))K=C(x)[Y]/(Y4−(2−x4)) be the function field of the quartic x4+y4=2x^4+y^4=2x4+y4=2, written as the Kummer cover y4=2−x4y^4=2-x^4y4=2−x4; here y∈Ky\in Ky∈K is the class of YYY, so that x4+y4=2x^4+y^4=2x4+y4=2 in KKK. For the chart at infinity x=1/sx=1/sx=1/s, y=r/sy=r/sy=r/s, let K′=C(s)[T]/(T4−(2s4−1))K'=\mathbb C(s)[T]/(T^4-(2s^4-1))K′=C(s)[T]/(T4−(2s4−1)), with rrr the class of TTT, so that r4=2s4−1r^4=2s^4-1r4=2s4−1, and let φ ⁣:K→K′\varphi\colon K\to K'φ:K→K′ be the ring homomorphism with φ(q(x))=q(1/s)\varphi(q(x))=q(1/s)φ(q(x))=q(1/s) for q∈C(x)q\in\mathbb C(x)q∈C(x) and φ(y)=r/s\varphi(y)=r/sφ(y)=r/s. Fix ζ∈C\zeta\in\mathbb Cζ∈C with ζ4=−1\zeta^4=-1ζ4=−1, so that (0,ζ)(0,\zeta)(0,ζ) is a point of r4=2s4−1r^4=2s^4-1r4=2s4−1, and let O′⊆K′\mathcal O'\subseteq K'O′⊆K′ be its local ring: the localization of C[s][T]/(T4−(2s4−1))\mathbb C[s][T]/(T^4-(2s^4-1))C[s][T]/(T4−(2s4−1)) at the kernel of the evaluation s↦0s\mapsto0s↦0, T↦ζT\mapsto\zetaT↦ζ, viewed inside K′K'K′. Put P∞=φ−1(O′)\mathcal P_\infty=\varphi^{-1}(\mathcal O')P∞=φ−1(O′), a valuation ring of KKK (a place of KKK over x=∞x=\inftyx=∞).

Let ΩK/C\Omega_{K/\mathbb C}ΩK/C be the KKK-module of Kähler differentials of KKK over C\mathbb CC, with universal derivation d ⁣:K→ΩK/Cd\colon K\to\Omega_{K/\mathbb C}d:K→ΩK/C. A differential is regular at a valuation ring O\mathcal OO of KKK if it is a C\mathbb CC-linear combination of differentials u dvu\,dvudv with u,v∈Ou,v\in\mathcal Ou,v∈O.

Let p∈C[x]p\in\mathbb C[x]p∈C[x] be a nonzero polynomial and j≥0j\ge0j≥0 an integer. If the differential p(x) yj dx/y3p(x)\,y^j\,dx/y^3p(x)yjdx/y3 is regular at P∞\mathcal P_\inftyP∞, then

deg⁡p+j≤1.\deg p+j\le1.degp+j≤1.

Applied to the four holomorphic pieces aj(x) yj dx/y3a_j(x)\,y^j\,dx/y^3aj(x)yjdx/y3 of a holomorphic differential, it leaves a2=a3=0a_2=a_3=0a2=a3=0, a1a_1a1 constant and deg⁡a0≤1\deg a_0\le1dega0≤1; this yields the spanning set dx/y3dx/y^3dx/y3, x dx/y3x\,dx/y^3xdx/y3, dx/y2dx/y^2dx/y2 of the holomorphic differentials and the genus three of the quartic used in Remark 5 of the note.

Formalization Note: ζ\zetaζ is one fourth root of −1-1−1, selected by choice, and the statement concerns that root. P∞\mathcal P_\inftyP∞ is defined as the preimage of the place of K′K'K′ at (0,ζ)(0,\zeta)(0,ζ) under the C\mathbb CC-algebra isomorphism K→K′K\to K'K→K′ whose underlying map is φ\varphiφ.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
