Let a,r∈Za,r\in\mathbb{Z}a,r∈Z with r≠0r\neq0r=0 and xi=a+(2i−1)rx_i=a+(2^i-1)rxi=a+(2i−1)r for i∈Ni\in\mathbb{N}i∈N. Then no term is the average of two other terms: for all i,j,li,j,li,j,l with i≠li\neq li=l,

2xj≠xi+xl,2x_j\neq x_i+x_l,2xj=xi+xl,

since this would force 2j+1=2i+2l2^{j+1}=2^i+2^l2j+1=2i+2l with i≠li\neq li=l. The sequence (xi)(x_i)(xi) is the orbit of iterated fourth-term completions xi+2=3xi+1−2xix_{i+2}=3x_{i+1}-2x_ixi+2=3xi+1−2xi appearing in tree-witness constructions for Erdős Problem 195; it contains no nonconstant 333-term arithmetic progression.

Formalization note: stated for natural-number indices with 2 ^ i computed in ℤ.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
