Assume the hypotheses of Theorem 4: the standing assumptions on hhh and PPP; qqq twice continuously differentiable and convex; ℓ>0\ell > 0ℓ>0 with −ℓI⪯∇2h(x)+∇2q(x)⪯ℓI-\ell I \preceq \nabla^2 h(x) + \nabla^2 q(x) \preceq \ell I−ℓI⪯∇2h(x)+∇2q(x)⪯ℓI for all xxx; step size β∈(0,1/ℓ)\beta \in (0, 1/\ell)β∈(0,1/ℓ); and (xt)(x^t)(xt) generated by the proximal gradient update (43). If (xt)(x^t)(xt) has a cluster point, then

lim⁡t→∞∥xt+1−xt∥=0.\lim_{t \to \infty} \|x^{t+1} - x^t\| = 0 .t→∞lim∥xt+1−xt∥=0.

This is the step that lets the iterate xti+1x^{t_i+1}xti+1 inherit the limit of a convergent subsequence xtix^{t_i}xti.

Formalization Note A cluster point is a limit of xφ(i)x^{\varphi(i)}xφ(i) for some strictly increasing φ:N→N\varphi : \mathbb{N} \to \mathbb{N}φ:N→N. No finiteness of P(x0)P(x^0)P(x0) is assumed.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
