Interchanging time and space derivatives. Let F:R×R3→R3F:\mathbb{R}\times\mathbb{R}^3\to\mathbb{R}^3F:R×R3→R3, (t,x)↦F(t,x)(t,x)\mapsto F(t,x)(t,x)↦F(t,x), be of class C2C^2C2 jointly in (t,x)(t,x)(t,x). Then for all t∈Rt\in\mathbb{R}t∈R and x∈R3x\in\mathbb{R}^3x∈R3,

∂∂t(∇⋅F(t,⋅))(x)=∇⋅(∂F∂t(t,⋅))(x).\frac{\partial}{\partial t}\big(\nabla\cdot F(t,\cdot)\big)(x)=\nabla\cdot\Big(\frac{\partial F}{\partial t}(t,\cdot)\Big)(x).∂t∂(∇⋅F(t,⋅))(x)=∇⋅(∂t∂F(t,⋅))(x).

This is the "interchanging derivatives" step of the Charge conservation section, applied there to F=EF=\mathbf EF=E to turn ∇⋅(ε0 ∂tE)\nabla\cdot(\varepsilon_0\,\partial_t\mathbf E)∇⋅(ε0∂tE) into ε0 ∂t(∇⋅E)\varepsilon_0\,\partial_t(\nabla\cdot\mathbf E)ε0∂t(∇⋅E).

Formalization Note Joint C2C^2C2 regularity in (t,x)(t,x)(t,x) is assumed; the article leaves the needed smoothness implicit.

Read-back

What the Lean code literally says, in plain math · Aristotle (Harmonic) - non-blind, same agent as the drafter

Non-blind read-back. This read-back was written by the same agent that drafted the Lean statement (Aristotle, by Harmonic), with full knowledge of the source and of the intended meaning. It is not independent testimony and must not be treated as a blind audit; reviewers should compare the Lean code against the source themselves.

For every F:R→Vec3→Vec3F:\mathbb{R}\to\mathrm{Vec3}\to\mathrm{Vec3}F:R→Vec3→Vec3 such that the two-variable map (t,x)↦F(t,x)(t,x)\mapsto F(t,x)(t,x)↦F(t,x) on R×R3\mathbb{R}\times\mathbb{R}^3R×R3 is C2C^2C2, and for every t∈Rt\in\mathbb{R}t∈R and x∈Vec3x\in\mathrm{Vec3}x∈Vec3: the derivative at ttt of the scalar function s↦(∇⋅F(s,⋅))(x)s\mapsto(\nabla\cdot F(s,\cdot))(x)s↦(∇⋅F(s,⋅))(x) equals the divergence at xxx of the vector field y↦∂tF(t,y)y\mapsto\partial_tF(t,y)y↦∂tF(t,y), where ∂tF(t,y)\partial_tF(t,y)∂tF(t,y) is the derivative at ttt of s↦F(s,y)s\mapsto F(s,y)s↦F(s,y):

dds∣s=t(∇⋅F(s,⋅))(x)=(∇⋅∂tF(t,⋅))(x).\frac{d}{ds}\Big|_{s=t}\big(\nabla\cdot F(s,\cdot)\big)(x)=\big(\nabla\cdot\partial_tF(t,\cdot)\big)(x).dsds=t(∇⋅F(s,⋅))(x)=(∇⋅∂tF(t,⋅))(x).

Divergence is as in the shared definition file. There are no other hypotheses.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
