The torsion subgroup of the semilocal units is finite
ProvedLeopoldt.finite_torsion_semilocalUnitsleopoldtnumber-theoryp-adic
Let be a number field, a prime, and
the group of semilocal units at (the platform's SemilocalUnits p K). Then the torsion subgroup
is finite; equivalently each completion contains only finitely many roots of unity.
This finiteness is what makes -ranks of subgroups of well behaved: up to a finite group, is its principal part, a finitely generated -module.
