Let C6C_6C6 be the cycle on six nodes and 2K32K_32K3 the disjoint union of two triangles. For every round sss, the multisets of Weisfeiler–Lehman colours of the two graphs coincide,

{ ⁣{cC6s(u):u∈V(C6)} ⁣}={ ⁣{c2K3s(u):u∈V(2K3)} ⁣},\{\!\{c^s_{C_6}(u) : u \in V(C_6)\}\!\} = \{\!\{c^s_{2K_3}(u) : u \in V(2K_3)\}\!\},{{cC6s(u):u∈V(C6)}}={{c2K3s(u):u∈V(2K3)}},

yet C6C_6C6 and 2K32K_32K3 are not isomorphic.

This is the standard example showing that the WL test is only a necessary condition for isomorphism.

Formalization Note The WL test is the featureless 1-WL colour refinement neighborColor / neighborHistogram of the reused definition WLIdentification.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
