A left shift of an input sequence need not shift an RNN's hidden-state sequence by the same amount. There exist a scalar input sequence zzz, a scalar hidden-state seed h0h_0h0, and an update map R:R×R→RR:\mathbb R\times\mathbb R\to\mathbb RR:R×R→R such that, with z′(t)=z(t+1)z'(t)=z(t+1)z′(t)=z(t+1),

hz′(1)≠hz(2).h_{z'}(1)\ne h_z(2).hz′(1)=hz(2).

Here each run starts from the same seed and follows h(0)=h0h(0)=h_0h(0)=h0, h(t+1)=R(z(t+1),h(t))h(t+1)=R(z(t+1),h(t))h(t+1)=R(z(t+1),h(t)). This counterexample records the boundary obstruction identified by equations (40)–(41).

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
