If the boats have been moving for time t tt hours, then Boat A has moved 12t 12t12t km while Boat B has moved 18t 18t18t ; by Pythagoras, the distance between them is (12t)2+(18t)2=613t \sqrt{(12t)^2+(18t)^2}=6\sqrt{13}t(12t)2+(18t)2=613t . Hence the rate of change of the distance between the boats is 613tt=613 km h−1 \frac{6\sqrt{13}t}{t}=6\sqrt{13}\ \textrm{km}\,\textrm{h}^{-1}t613t=613 kmh−1 . This rate is constant, however long the boats have been travelling.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
