Let u∈Cu \in \mathbb{C}u∈C be transcendental, that is, u∉Q‾u \notin \overline{\mathbb{Q}}u∈/Q (the algebraic numbers); spans and linear independence are over Q‾\overline{\mathbb{Q}}Q. Suppose uuˉu\bar uuuˉ is algebraic, let zzz lie in Q‾(u)\overline{\mathbb{Q}}(u)Q(u), the subfield of C\mathbb{C}C generated by Q‾\overline{\mathbb{Q}}Q and uuu, and let Wz=span(1,u,uˉ,z,zˉ)W_z = \mathrm{span}(1, u, \bar u, z, \bar z)Wz=span(1,u,uˉ,z,zˉ), the conjugation hull of zzz. Then WzW_zWz carries a 2×32 \times 32×3 configuration (linearly independent x0,x1∈Cx_0, x_1 \in \mathbb{C}x0,x1∈C and linearly independent y0,y1,y2∈Cy_0, y_1, y_2 \in \mathbb{C}y0,y1,y2∈C with every xiyj∈Wzx_iy_j \in W_zxiyj∈Wz) if and only if one of the following holds:

  • dim⁡Wz=4\dim W_z = 4dimWz=4, and z∈span(1,u,uˉ,(u−a)−1)z \in \mathrm{span}(1, u, \bar u, (u - a)^{-1})z∈span(1,u,uˉ,(u−a)−1) for some a∈Q‾a \in \overline{\mathbb{Q}}a∈Q with aaˉ=uuˉa\bar a = u\bar uaaˉ=uuˉ;
  • dim⁡Wz=5\dim W_z = 5dimWz=5, and WzW_zWz satisfies (D1), (D2a) or (D2b) below.

Here, with W=WzW = W_zW=Wz:

  • (D1) there are linearly independent t0,t1,t2∈Ct_0, t_1, t_2 \in \mathbb{C}t0,t1,t2∈C with tj∈Wt_j \in Wtj∈W and utj∈Wut_j \in Wutj∈W for every jjj;
  • (D2a, two-orbit) W=span(1,u,u−1,Q′(u)S1(u)/(uP′(u)),P′(u)S2(u)/(uQ′(u)))W = \mathrm{span}(1, u, u^{-1}, Q'(u)S_1(u)/(uP'(u)), P'(u)S_2(u)/(uQ'(u)))W=span(1,u,u−1,Q′(u)S1(u)/(uP′(u)),P′(u)S2(u)/(uQ′(u))) for some P′,Q′,S1,S2∈Q‾[X]P', Q', S_1, S_2 \in \overline{\mathbb{Q}}[X]P′,Q′,S1,S2∈Q[X] with P′,Q′P', Q'P′,Q′ coprime, max⁡(deg⁡P′,deg⁡Q′)=2\max(\deg P', \deg Q') = 2max(degP′,degQ′)=2 and deg⁡S1,deg⁡S2≤2\deg S_1, \deg S_2 \leq 2degS1,degS2≤2;
  • (D2b, cyclic) W=span(1,u,u−1,Q′(u)S1(u)/(uP′(u)),Q′(u)(Q′(u)S1(u)+P′(u)S2(u))/(uP′(u)2))W = \mathrm{span}(1, u, u^{-1}, Q'(u)S_1(u)/(uP'(u)), Q'(u)(Q'(u)S_1(u) + P'(u)S_2(u))/(uP'(u)^2))W=span(1,u,u−1,Q′(u)S1(u)/(uP′(u)),Q′(u)(Q′(u)S1(u)+P′(u)S2(u))/(uP′(u)2)) for some such P′,Q′,S1,S2P', Q', S_1, S_2P′,Q′,S1,S2.

Proof. WzW_zWz is spanned by five vectors and contains span(1,u,uˉ)\mathrm{span}(1, u, \bar u)span(1,u,uˉ), of dimension 333 (a relation a+bu+cuˉ=0a + bu + c\bar u = 0a+bu+cuˉ=0 times uuu is cρ+au+bu2=0c\rho + au + bu^2 = 0cρ+au+bu2=0 with ρ=uuˉ≠0\rho = u\bar u \neq 0ρ=uuˉ=0 algebraic), so dim⁡Wz∈{3,4,5}\dim W_z \in \{3, 4, 5\}dimWz∈{3,4,5}. In dimension 333, Wz=span(1,u,uˉ)W_z = \mathrm{span}(1, u, \bar u)Wz=span(1,u,uˉ), and a 2×32 \times 32×3 configuration there contradicts DiazModulus.circle_point_config_card_le_four (2+3>42 + 3 > 42+3>4). In dimension 444 the equivalence is DiazModulus.conj_hull_finrank_four_two_by_three_configuration_iff. In dimension 555, DiazModulus.rational_conj_hull_le_adjoin gives u−1∈Wzu^{-1} \in W_zu−1∈Wz and Wz⊆Q‾(u)W_z \subseteq \overline{\mathbb{Q}}(u)Wz⊆Q(u), so DiazModulus.rational_space_two_by_three_configuration_iff applies to W=WzW = W_zW=Wz. Both directions follow.

Novelty. Not found in the sources read: the “only if” half, the classification. Theorem F asks the question of Theorem E of the mission's research note (the Laurent case, formal as DiazModulus.laurent_conj_hull_two_by_three_configuration_iff) for every zzz rational in uuu, and builds on Theorem B (DiazModulus.circle_point_extension_two_by_three_configuration_iff, 10.6), which holds for every complex zzz. For Laurent zzz, that its answer gives back Theorem E's classes (P), (Q) and (R) was checked by exact computation on random data, not proved; Theorem E's explicit criteria do not follow from it. The configurations themselves (the “if” half) give, at a candidate, exclusions that are substitutions in Roy's strong six exponentials theorem (Roy 1992, Cor. 2). For the conjugation-stable families they are printed configurations: Diaz's Théorème 7(1) (2007) and Théorème 2 (2004); in dimension 4, Théorème 7(1) at v=1/(u−a)v = 1/(u - a)v=1/(u−a).

Not found in the sources read: the “only if” half, the classification. Theorem F asks the question of Theorem E of the mission's research note on polynomial and Laurent hulls (DiazModulus.laurent_conj_hull_two_by_three_configuration_iff, Laurent z) for every z rational in u, and builds on Theorem B (DiazModulus.circle_point_extension_two_by_three_configuration_iff, 10.6), which holds for every complex z. For Laurent z, agreement with Theorem E's classes was checked by exact computation, not proved. Its configurations give, at a candidate, exclusions that are substitutions in Roy's strong six exponentials theorem (D. Roy, Matrices whose coefficients are linear forms in logarithms, J. Number Theory 41 (1992), 22–47, Cor. 2). Special cases of the “if” half are printed: in dimension 4 the configuration is G. Diaz, Produits et quotients de combinaisons linéaires de logarithmes de nombres algébriques : conjectures et résultats partiels, J. Théor. Nombres Bordeaux 19 (2007), 373–391, Théorème 7(1) at v = 1/(u − a), with the exclusion in its Corollaire 5(4); for polynomials of degree 2 and 3 in u it is Théorème 7(1); Theorem E's class (Q) is a substitution in G. Diaz, Utilisation de la conjugaison complexe dans l'étude de la transcendance de valeurs de la fonction exponentielle usuelle, J. Théor. Nombres Bordeaux 16 (2004), 535–553, Théorème 2, and in Diaz 2007, Théorème 4(1). Uses DiazModulus.rational_space_two_by_three_configuration_iff, DiazModulus.rational_conj_hull_le_adjoin, DiazModulus.conj_hull_finrank_four_two_by_three_configuration_iff and DiazModulus.circle_point_config_card_le_four.
