Let RnR_nRn (n∈Nn\in\mathbb{N}n∈N) be arbitrary relations on Z\mathbb{Z}Z. For a finite word PPP, the completion orders Z\mathbb{Z}Z by listing PPP first and then all other integers in RRR-order; PPP is RRR-safe if this completion contains no aaa, r≠0r\neq0r=0 with a,a+r,a+2r,a+3ra,a+r,a+2r,a+3ra,a+r,a+2r,a+3r appearing in this order. Suppose P0,P1,…P_0,P_1,\dotsP0,P1,… are duplicate-free finite words, each PnP_nPn is RnR_nRn-safe, each PnP_nPn is a prefix of Pn+1P_{n+1}Pn+1, and every integer occurs in some PnP_nPn. Then

∃f:N→Z bijective with no monotone 4-term arithmetic progression.\exists f:\mathbb{N}\to\mathbb{Z}\ \text{bijective with no monotone 4-term arithmetic progression}.∃f:N→Z bijective with no monotone 4-term arithmetic progression.

This is the limit lemma (L): in particular nested tree-safe words (Rn=≺θnR_n=\prec_{\theta_n}Rn=≺θn, witnesses may change with nnn) covering Z\mathbb{Z}Z would answer Erdős Problem 195 with 333.

Formalization note: prefix is <+:; the conclusion is ∃ f : ℕ ≃ ℤ, ¬ HasMonotoneAP f 4 with HasMonotoneAP from Definitions.Def_Erdos195_defs (verbatim formal-conjectures definition).

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
