Consider the block interconnection of Figure 2a. The system GGG is the linear recursion

Let (A^,B^,C^,D^)(\hat A,\hat B,\hat C,\hat D)(A^,B^,C^,D^) be the combined system (3.6)–(3.7). Suppose (ξ⋆,ζ⋆,y⋆,u⋆,z⋆)(\xi_\star,\zeta_\star,y_\star,u_\star,z_\star)(ξ⋆,ζ⋆,y⋆,u⋆,z⋆) is a fixed point of (3.5) and (3.2):

Let MMM be a symmetric matrix and 0<ρ≤10<\rho\le 10<ρ≤1, and suppose φ\varphiφ satisfies the ρ\rhoρ-hard IQC defined by (Ψ,M,ρ,y⋆,u⋆)(\Psi,M,\rho,y_\star,u_\star)(Ψ,M,ρ,y⋆,u⋆). If the LMI

holds for some P≻0P\succ 0P≻0 and λ≥0\lambda\ge 0λ≥0, then for every initial state ξ0\xi_0ξ0, every sequence ξ\xiξ with ξk+1=Aξk+B φ(Cξ)k\xi_{k+1}=A\xi_k+B\,\varphi(C\xi)_kξk+1=Aξk+Bφ(Cξ)k for all kkk satisfies

∥ξk−ξ⋆∥≤cond⁡(P) ρk ∥ξ0−ξ⋆∥for all k,\|\xi_k-\xi_\star\|\le\sqrt{\operatorname{cond}(P)}\,\rho^k\,\|\xi_0-\xi_\star\|\qquad\text{for all }k,∥ξk−ξ⋆∥≤cond(P)ρk∥ξ0−ξ⋆∥for all k,

where ∥⋅∥\|\cdot\|∥⋅∥ is the Euclidean norm and cond⁡(P)=λmax⁡(P)/λmin⁡(P)\operatorname{cond}(P)=\lambda_{\max}(P)/\lambda_{\min}(P)cond(P)=λmax(P)/λmin(P).

This is the main result of the paper: linear convergence of an iterative algorithm GGG in feedback with a nonlinearity (for optimization algorithms, uk=∇f(yk)u_k=\nabla f(y_k)uk=∇f(yk)) is certified by the feasibility of a semidefinite program whose size does not depend on the dimension of the problem, once an IQC for the nonlinearity is known.

Formalization Note. The page allows 0≤ρ0\le\rho0≤ρ; the weights ρ−2t\rho^{-2t}ρ−2t of the ρ\rhoρ-hard IQC are undefined at ρ=0\rho=0ρ=0, so ρ>0\rho>0ρ>0 is assumed. The IQC hypothesis quantifies over every input sequence yyy and every kkk, with the filter started at ζ⋆\zeta_\starζ⋆ (Definition 3). ρ(AΨ)<1\rho(A_\Psi)<1ρ(AΨ)<1 is part of the IQC hypothesis and MMM is assumed symmetric, as on the page. The norm is norm2 v = √(v ⬝ᵥ v).

/-- Theorem 4 (Main result), pp. 10–11. `G` is `ξ_{k+1} = Aξ_k + Bu_k`, `y_k = Cξ_k` (3.5),
`Ψ` is the filter (3.2), `(ξ⋆, ζ⋆, y⋆, u⋆, z⋆)` is a fixed point (3.8a)–(3.8d), `φ` satisfies the
ρ-hard IQC defined by `(Ψ, M, ρ, y⋆, u⋆)` with `0 < ρ ≤ 1`, and the LMI (3.9) holds for some
`P ≻ 0`, `λ ≥ 0`. Then every trajectory of the interconnection `ξ_{k+1} = Aξ_k + B φ(Cξ)_k`
satisfies `‖ξ_k − ξ⋆‖ ≤ √cond(P) ρ^k ‖ξ₀ − ξ⋆‖` for all `k` (2-norm). -/

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
