field-theoryfunction-fieldspi-exponent

Let K⊆EK\subseteq EK⊆E be a field extension that is essentially of finite type and of transcendence degree one. Then there exists an element t∈Et\in Et∈E, transcendental over KKK, such that EEE is a finite-dimensional vector space over the simple transcendental extension K(t)=K⟨t⟩K(t)=K\langle t\rangleK(t)=K⟨t⟩.

This is the standard one-variable function-field presentation: a transcendence basis has cardinality one, the adjunction of that element is purely transcendental of degree one, and essential finite type upgrades algebraicity of E/K(t)E/K(t)E/K(t) to finite dimensionality (Mathlib Algebra.finite_of_essFiniteType_of_isAlgebraic).

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
