Let K=C(x)[Y]/(Y4−(2−x4))K=\mathbb C(x)[Y]/(Y^4-(2-x^4))K=C(x)[Y]/(Y4−(2−x4)) be the function field of the quartic x4+y4=2x^4+y^4=2x4+y4=2, written as the Kummer cover y4=2−x4y^4=2-x^4y4=2−x4; here y∈Ky\in Ky∈K is the class of YYY, so that x4+y4=2x^4+y^4=2x4+y4=2 in KKK.

Let ΩK/C\Omega_{K/\mathbb C}ΩK/C be the KKK-module of Kähler differentials of KKK over C\mathbb CC, with universal derivation d ⁣:K→ΩK/Cd\colon K\to\Omega_{K/\mathbb C}d:K→ΩK/C. A differential is regular at a valuation ring O\mathcal OO of KKK if it is a C\mathbb CC-linear combination of differentials u dvu\,dvudv with u,v∈Ou,v\in\mathcal Ou,v∈O. A place of KKK is a valuation ring O\mathcal OO of KKK with C⊆O≠K\mathbb C\subseteq\mathcal O\ne KC⊆O=K. A differential is holomorphic if it is regular at every place of KKK; the holomorphic differentials form a C\mathbb CC-subspace ΩKhol\Omega^{\mathrm{hol}}_KΩKhol of ΩK/C\Omega_{K/\mathbb C}ΩK/C.

Let ω∈ΩKhol\omega\in\Omega^{\mathrm{hol}}_Kω∈ΩKhol. Then there are polynomials a0,a1,a2,a3∈C[x]a_0,a_1,a_2,a_3\in\mathbb C[x]a0,a1,a2,a3∈C[x] such that

ω=(a0(x)+a1(x) y+a2(x) y2+a3(x) y3) dxy3\omega=\bigl(a_0(x)+a_1(x)\,y+a_2(x)\,y^2+a_3(x)\,y^3\bigr)\,\frac{dx}{y^3}ω=(a0(x)+a1(x)y+a2(x)y2+a3(x)y3)y3dx

and each of the four differentials a0(x) dx/y3a_0(x)\,dx/y^3a0(x)dx/y3, a1(x) y dx/y3a_1(x)\,y\,dx/y^3a1(x)ydx/y3, a2(x) y2 dx/y3a_2(x)\,y^2\,dx/y^3a2(x)y2dx/y3 and a3(x) y3 dx/y3a_3(x)\,y^3\,dx/y^3a3(x)y3dx/y3 is holomorphic.

Combined with the degree bound at a place over x=∞x=\inftyx=∞, this reduces the holomorphic differentials of the quartic to the span of dx/y3dx/y^3dx/y3, x dx/y3x\,dx/y^3xdx/y3 and dx/y2dx/y^2dx/y2, a step of the computation of the genus three in Remark 5 of the note.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
