This theorem produces a globally Lipschitz approximation agreeing with a globally Lipschitz function on most of a probability space.

Let VVV be a finite-dimensional real inner-product normed space with its Borel measurable structure, let ν\nuν be a probability measure on VVV, and let f:V→Rf:V\to\mathbb Rf:V→R be globally LLL-Lipschitz. Let α>0\alpha>0α>0 be represented by NNReal, and let δ>0\delta>0δ>0 be an ENNReal value. Then there exist a function F:V→RF:V\to\mathbb RF:V→R and a measurable set K⊆VK\subseteq VK⊆V such that

  1. FFF is globally (9L+8α)(9L+8\alpha)(9L+8α)-Lipschitz;
  2. ν(Kc)≤δ\nu(K^c)\le\deltaν(Kc)≤δ;
  3. F=fF=fF=f on KKK;
  4. for every x∈Vx\in Vx∈V,
∣F(x)−f(x)∣≤2L+2α;|F(x)-f(x)|\le 2L+2\alpha;∣F(x)−f(x)∣≤2L+2α;
  1. for every x∈Kx\in Kx∈K,
AsymptoticLipschitz.apply⁡(F,x)≤apply⁡(f,x)+2α.\operatorname{AsymptoticLipschitz.apply}(F,x) \le \operatorname{apply}(f,x)+2\alpha.AsymptoticLipschitz.apply(F,x)≤apply(f,x)+2α.

The declaration is exists_patch_readable. The measure bound and slope comparison use [0,∞][0,\infty][0,∞] values (ENNReal), and the conclusion is existential for each strictly positive α\alphaα and δ\deltaδ.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
