This is an auxiliary geometric estimate for subgradient images.

Let EEE be a nontrivial finite-dimensional real inner-product space with its Borel measurable structure, let v:E→Rv:E\to\mathbb Rv:E→R, let S⊆ES\subseteq ES⊆E, and let A,t∈RA,t\in\mathbb RA,t∈R. Assume:

  1. 0<t0<t0<t.
  2. The unit ball satisfies B(0,1)⊆SB(0,1)\subseteq SB(0,1)⊆S.
  3. For every x∈Sx\in Sx∈S, −2t≤v(x)-2t\le v(x)−2t≤v(x).
  4. For every x∈Sx\in Sx∈S, v(x)≤0v(x)\le 0v(x)≤0.
  5. With subgradientImage denoting the subgradient image, the volume comparison
A vol⁡(B(0,1/2))≤vol⁡(∂v(B(0,1/2)))A\,\operatorname{vol}(B(0,1/2))\le \operatorname{vol}(\partial v(B(0,1/2)))Avol(B(0,1/2))≤vol(∂v(B(0,1/2)))

holds after taking the real toReal values of the corresponding ENNReal measures.

Then, writing n=finrank⁡REn=\operatorname{finrank}_{\mathbb R}En=finrankRE, one has

A≤(8t)n.A\le (8t)^n.A≤(8t)n.

This is a technical scaling estimate used in the localized Caffarelli contact-set argument.

Formalization Note The measure values are in [0,∞][0,\infty][0,∞] (ENNReal), and the displayed comparison and conclusion use their real toReal coercions. The exponent is the real dimension of EEE.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
