Let A=\sqbrkan,B=\sqbrkbn\mathbf A = \sqbrk a_n, \mathbf B = \sqbrk b_nA=\sqbrkan,B=\sqbrkbn be upper triangular matrices of order nnn. Let C=AB\mathbf C = \mathbf A \mathbf BC=AB. Then (1):(1): \quad(1): the diagonal elements of C\mathbf CC are given by ∀j∈\closedint1n:cjj=ajjbjj\forall j \in \closedint 1 n: c_{j j} = a_{j j} b_{j j}∀j∈\closedint1n:cjj=ajjbjj That is, the diagonal elements of C\mathbf CC are those of the factor matrices multiplied together. (2):(2): \quad(2): The matrix C\mathbf CC is itself upper triangular. The same applies if both A\mathbf AA and B\mathbf BB are lower triangular matrices.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
