Let m≥2m\ge2m≥2 be an integer and let a,b,c,d∈Ca,b,c,d\in\mathbb Ca,b,c,d∈C with a≠0a\ne0a=0, b≠0b\ne0b=0 and ad−bc≠0ad-bc\ne0ad−bc=0. Consider F(X,Y)=aXm+bYm+XY (cXm+dYm)∈C[X,Y]F(X,Y)=aX^m+bY^m+XY\,(cX^m+dY^m)\in\mathbb C[X,Y]F(X,Y)=aXm+bYm+XY(cXm+dYm)∈C[X,Y], and call a point (x,y)∈C2(x,y)\in\mathbb C^2(x,y)∈C2 singular for FFF if FFF and both of its partial derivatives vanish there.

Then for every (x,y)∈C2(x,y)\in\mathbb C^2(x,y)∈C2,

F(x,y)=∂F∂X(x,y)=∂F∂Y(x,y)=0  ⟺  (x,y)=(0,0).F(x,y)=\frac{\partial F}{\partial X}(x,y)=\frac{\partial F}{\partial Y}(x,y)=0\iff(x,y)=(0,0).F(x,y)=∂X∂F(x,y)=∂Y∂F(x,y)=0⟺(x,y)=(0,0).

With (a,b,c,d)=(α,αˉ,1,1)(a,b,c,d)=(\alpha,\bar\alpha,1,1)(a,b,c,d)=(α,αˉ,1,1) the polynomial FFF is PαP_\alphaPα, and in the coordinates u=1/Xu=1/Xu=1/X, v=1/Yv=1/Yv=1/Y the equation of VαV_\alphaVα near (∞,∞)(\infty,\infty)(∞,∞) is um+vm+uv(αˉum+αvm)u^m+v^m+uv(\bar\alpha u^m+\alpha v^m)um+vm+uv(αˉum+αvm), of the same shape; in both cases ad−bc=α−αˉ≠0ad-bc=\alpha-\bar\alpha\ne0ad−bc=α−αˉ=0 when α∉R\alpha\notin\mathbb Rα∈/R. This gives the part of Lemma 4 locating the singular points of VαV_\alphaVα in these two charts.

Formalization Note: the partial derivatives are formal derivatives of polynomials, and only points of the affine plane C2\mathbb C^2C2 are concerned.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
