For a polynomial R∈C[X,Y]R\in\mathbb C[X,Y]R∈C[X,Y], let Z(R)={z∈C: R(z,zˉ)=0}Z(R)=\{z\in\mathbb C:\ R(z,\bar z)=0\}Z(R)={z∈C: R(z,zˉ)=0} be its real locus in the complex coordinates X=zX=zX=z, Y=zˉY=\bar zY=zˉ. For a real polynomial f(x,y)f(x,y)f(x,y) rewritten in these coordinates, ZZZ is the zero set of fff in R2=C\mathbb R^2=\mathbb CR2=C.

Let P,Q∈C[X,Y]P,Q\in\mathbb C[X,Y]P,Q∈C[X,Y] be irreducible polynomials whose real loci Z(P)Z(P)Z(P) and Z(Q)Z(Q)Z(Q) are infinite. Let a,b∈Ca,b\in\mathbb Ca,b∈C with a≠0a\ne0a=0, and suppose that the similarity S(z)=az+bS(z)=az+bS(z)=az+b maps Z(Q)Z(Q)Z(Q) onto Z(P)Z(P)Z(P), that is, S(Z(Q))=Z(P)S(Z(Q))=Z(P)S(Z(Q))=Z(P). Let σ\sigmaσ be the automorphism of the C\mathbb CC-algebra C[X,Y]\mathbb C[X,Y]C[X,Y] given by σ(R)(X,Y)=R(aX+b, aˉY+bˉ)\sigma(R)(X,Y)=R(aX+b,\ \bar aY+\bar b)σ(R)(X,Y)=R(aX+b, aˉY+bˉ), the substitution of SSS in these coordinates. Then the ideal generated by PPP is the image under σ−1\sigma^{-1}σ−1 of the ideal generated by QQQ:

(P)=σ−1((Q))=(Q(X−ba, Y−bˉaˉ)).(P)=\sigma^{-1}\bigl((Q)\bigr)=\Bigl(Q\Bigl(\frac{X-b}{a},\ \frac{Y-\bar b}{\bar a}\Bigr)\Bigr).(P)=σ−1((Q))=(Q(aX−b, aˉY−bˉ)).

Equivalently, PPP is a nonzero constant multiple of Q(X−ba,Y−bˉaˉ)Q\bigl(\frac{X-b}{a},\frac{Y-\bar b}{\bar a}\bigr)Q(aX−b,aˉY−bˉ).

In the check of Remark 5 this is how a similarity between real loci yields an isomorphism of the coordinate rings C[X,Y]/(P)≅C[X,Y]/(Q)\mathbb C[X,Y]/(P)\cong\mathbb C[X,Y]/(Q)C[X,Y]/(P)≅C[X,Y]/(Q), hence of the function fields, to which the invariance of the genus applies.

Formalization Note: C[X,Y]\mathbb C[X,Y]C[X,Y] is MvPolynomial (Fin 2) ℂ and Z(R)Z(R)Z(R) is a subset of C\mathbb CC; the right-hand side is the image (Ideal.map) of the ideal (Q)(Q)(Q) under σ−1\sigma^{-1}σ−1.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
