Let nnn be a natural number, GGG a real (n+1)×(n+1)(n+1)\times(n+1)(n+1)×(n+1) matrix, EEE a real (n+1)×(n+1)(n+1)\times(n+1)(n+1)×(n+1) matrix and d∈Rn+1d\in\mathbb R^{n+1}d∈Rn+1 with

ETGE=diag(d0,…,dn),d0<0,di>0  (i≠0).E^{\mathsf T}GE=\mathrm{diag}(d_0,\dots,d_n),\qquad d_0<0,\qquad d_i>0\ \ (i\neq0).ETGE=diag(d0,…,dn),d0<0,di>0  (i=0).

Then GGG is Lorentzian in the sense of bundle Atlas_Core_Basic: there is a matrix E′E'E′ with invertible determinant and E′TGE′=ηn=diag(−1,1,…,1)E'^{\mathsf T}GE'=\eta_n=\mathrm{diag}(-1,1,\dots,1)E′TGE′=ηn=diag(−1,1,…,1). (No invertibility of EEE is assumed; it follows since the diagonal matrix is invertible.)

The criterion used by every row to discharge the signature obligation: each row exhibits an explicit (unnormalised) frame that diagonalises its metric with one negative and three positive entries; the normalisation by 1/∣di∣1/\sqrt{|d_i|}1/∣di∣ happens once, here.

Formalization Note IsLorentzian G is ∃E, IsUnit(det⁡E)∧ETGE=ηn\exists E,\ \mathrm{IsUnit}(\det E)\wedge E^{\mathsf T}GE=\eta_n∃E, IsUnit(detE)∧ETGE=ηn; the total dimension is n+1n+1n+1.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
