For every ε:N→{true,false}\varepsilon:\mathbb{N}\to\{\mathrm{true},\mathrm{false}\}ε:N→{true,false}, the relation ≺ε\prec_\varepsilon≺ε on Z\mathbb{Z}Z is a strict total order: it is irreflexive and transitive, and any two distinct integers are comparable.

∀x≠y: x≺εy ∨ y≺εx,x≺εy≺εz  ⟹  x≺εz.\forall x\neq y:\ x\prec_\varepsilon y \ \lor\ y\prec_\varepsilon x, \qquad x\prec_\varepsilon y\prec_\varepsilon z\implies x\prec_\varepsilon z.∀x=y: x≺εy ∨ y≺εx,x≺εy≺εz⟹x≺εz.

Completion orders built from ≺ε\prec_\varepsilon≺ε are therefore genuine linear orders.

Formalization Note epsLt ε x y is x ≠ y ∧ (x / 2^k % 2 = 1 ↔ ε k = true) with k = padicValInt 2 (y - x), i.e. k=ν2(y−x)k=\nu_2(y-x)k=ν2(y−x); integer division is floor division, so x / 2^k % 2 is the kkk-th two's-complement digit of xxx.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
