Attainment of a natural-valued infimum

finite-combinatoricsorder-theory

Let f:α→Nf : \alpha\to\mathbb Nf:α→N be a natural-valued function on a nonempty type. Then the infimum of its range is attained:

∃a:α,f(a)=inf⁡range⁡(f),∀b:α,inf⁡range⁡(f)≤f(b).\exists a:\alpha,\quad f(a)=\inf\operatorname{range}(f), \qquad \forall b:\alpha,\quad \inf\operatorname{range}(f)\le f(b).∃a:α,f(a)=infrange(f),∀b:α,infrange(f)≤f(b).

This finite-order attainment principle supplies a drawing with minimum crossing-set cardinality when defining a graph crossing number by an infimum over all drawings.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
