Explicit radial collar and boundary identification of the disk

Definition
SPC4DiskCollar

by ryanshin · Sep 5, 2026 · Mathlib 0df444a (Lean v4.33.1)

collarsdifferentialgeometryexplicitdiskatlasmanifoldswithboundary

For every nonnegative integer m, construct the specified map from the unit m-sphere times [0,1] to the closed unit ball, (u,t) ↦ (1−t/2)u, and the point-preserving homeomorphism from the boundary of the concrete disk atlas to the unit sphere. The latter constructor carries the proved norm-one boundary characterization. Its three boundary proof helpers are retained internally under SPC4Disk.CollarData with no admitted dependencies; the existing SPC4DiskCharts bundle is imported unchanged. No arbitrary-manifold collar theorem or transported annulus structure is defined.

What the Lean code literally says, in plain math · Codex; the exact underlying model identifier is not exposed in this session.

For every natural number mmm, including m=0m=0m=0, let E=Rm+1E=\mathbb R^{m+1}E=Rm+1 with its Euclidean norm, D={x∈E:∥x∥≤1}D=\{x\in E:\|x\|\leq1\}D={x∈E:∥x∥≤1}, and Sm={u∈E:∥u∥=1}S^m=\{u\in E:\|u\|=1\}Sm={u∈E:∥u∥=1}, with their subspace topologies. The specified charted structure on DDD has model half-space H={y∈E:y0≥0}H=\{y\in E:y_0\geq0\}H={y∈E:y0≥0} and atlas consisting of the chart x↦x+2e0x\mapsto x+2e_0x↦x+2e0 on ∥x∥<1\|x\|<1∥x∥<1 and, for each p∈Smp\in S^mp∈Sm, the chart x↦(1−∥x∥,σ−p(x/∥x∥))x\mapsto(1-\|x\|,\sigma_{-p}(x/\|x\|))x↦(1−∥x∥,σ−p(x/∥x∥)) on x≠0x\neq0x=0 and x≠−∥x∥px\neq-\|x\|px=−∥x∥p, with target {y∈H:y0<1}\{y\in H:y_0<1\}{y∈H:y0<1}; σ−p\sigma_{-p}σ−p is stereographic projection from −p-p−p, followed by the linear isometry to Rm\mathbb R^mRm chosen in the imported sphere construction. The preferred chart at aaa is the first chart if ∥a∥<1\|a\|<1∥a∥<1, and the boundary chart with p=ap=ap=a if ∥a∥=1\|a\|=1∥a∥=1. In this structure, each z∈Dz\in Dz∈D with ∥z∥<1\|z\|<1∥z∥<1 is an interior point, each z∈Dz\in Dz∈D with ∥z∥=1\|z\|=1∥z∥=1 is a boundary point, and the manifold boundary, as a subset of DDD, is exactly ∂D={z∈D:∥z∥=1}\partial D=\{z\in D:\|z\|=1\}∂D={z∈D:∥z∥=1}. The defined homeomorphism ∂D≅Sm\partial D\cong S^m∂D≅Sm sends a boundary point to its underlying vector, and its inverse regards that same unit vector first as a point of DDD and then as a boundary point. The defined map c:Sm×[0,1]→Dc:S^m\times[0,1]\to Dc:Sm×[0,1]→D is c(u,t)=(1−t/2)uc(u,t)=(1-t/2)uc(u,t)=(1−t/2)u for every unit vector uuu and every real ttt satisfying 0≤t≤10\leq t\leq10≤t≤1; both endpoints are included, the factor is between 1/21/21/2 and 111, and its values at t=0t=0t=0 and t=1t=1t=1 are respectively uuu and u/2u/2u/2. All these declarations concern dimensions m+1≥1m+1\geq1m+1≥1; in particular they include the one-dimensional disk and its two-point sphere.
