Let GGG be a finite simple graph with a connected crossing-free ordinary polygonal drawing DDD and plane-face data AAA. For a non-bridge edge eee, delete eee to form GdelG_{\mathrm{del}}Gdel. The theorem supplies a crossing-free ordinary polygonal drawing DdelD_{\mathrm{del}}Ddel of GdelG_{\mathrm{del}}Gdel that keeps the vertex placement and agrees with DDD on every remaining edge arc, together with plane-face data AdelA_{\mathrm{del}}Adel.

There is a dart ddd on eee whose two incident faces in AAA are distinct, and a surjective map from the old faces to the new faces such that exactly those two faces are identified. Every other old face is unchanged, the relative interior of eee lies in the merged face, and the number of faces decreases by one:

# Adel.Face+1=# A.Face.\#\,A_{\mathrm{del}}.\mathrm{Face}+1=\#\,A.\mathrm{Face}.#Adel.Face+1=#A.Face.

The edge-arc agreement is stated using the corresponding edge of GGG for each edge of GdelG_{\mathrm{del}}Gdel, and the face inclusions and equality clauses are those of the source declaration.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
