planar-graphspolygonal-drawings

Consider an ordinary polygonal drawing DDD of a finite tree GGG with no crossings. Given a degree-one vertex vvv, its neighbor www, the induced tree obtained by deleting vvv, and the corresponding edge e={v,w}e=\{v,w\}e={v,w}, there exists an ordinary polygonal drawing D′D'D′ of the induced graph with the following exact data: D′D'D′ is crossing-free; it preserves the old vertex placements; every remaining edge arc is inherited from a distinct old edge other than eee; the old drawing image is the union of the new image and the carrier of D(e)D(e)D(e); the placement of www lies in the new image while that of vvv does not; the induced graph has strictly fewer edges; and the endpoints of the deleted arc are the placements of vvv and www in one of the two orientations.\n\nThis is the geometric bookkeeping lemma that makes leaf deletion compatible with induction on plane-tree drawings.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
