Let CCC be the Collatz step map and TTT the Syracuse map. For odd nnn, every point of the TTT-orbit of nnn occurs on the CCC-orbit of nnn:

n odd⟹∀t ∃M: CM(n)=Tt(n).n \text{ odd} \quad \Longrightarrow \quad \forall t \ \exists M : \ C^{M}(n) = T^{t}(n) .n odd⟹∀t ∃M: CM(n)=Tt(n).

The proof is induction on ttt, using at each stage that Tt(n)T^{t}(n)Tt(n) is again odd, so that a single TTT-step from it is realised by finitely many CCC-steps, and that the two orbit segments compose through CM′+M(n)=CM′(CM(n))C^{M'+M}(n) = C^{M'}(C^{M}(n))CM′+M(n)=CM′(CM(n)).

The statement identifies the TTT-orbit as the subsequence of odd values along the CCC-orbit. It is the transfer principle that lets the quantitative theory of the accelerated map — where the expected multiplier per step is 3/43/43/4 — be applied to the original problem without loss.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
