General lookahead bound with slacks (Prop. 6.3.2)
ProvedBertsekasDP.limited_lookahead_boundProposition 6.3.2 (performance bound with per-stage slacks). In the basic stochastic model, let be arbitrary functions with , and let be an admissible policy which at every stage falls short of the approximation by at most (Eq. (6.23)):
Then the cost-to-go of obeys the accumulated bound
Unlike Prop. 6.3.1 this needs no assumption relating to a minimization, which makes it the tool of choice when the lookahead minimization is inexact, when the approximation architecture is imperfect, or when the policy comes from elsewhere entirely. The source uses it to bound the certainty equivalent controller, where measures the error committed by fixing the disturbance at a nominal value; when every it recovers .
Formalization Note The scalars carry no sign restriction. No minimality of over any control set is hypothesized — only the displayed inequality — though the policy is required to be admissible. The sum over the empty range at gives the boundary case .

Same setting: types with finite, a term of the not-provided structure BertsekasDPModel (visible fields as above: , , , , , ), and the not-provided quantity BertsekasDPPolicyCost treated as opaque. Hypotheses:
- with for all ;
- is an arbitrary real sequence (no sign constraint);
- with for all and all (again forcing every nonempty for the hypotheses to be satisfiable);
- (hπ) for every and every :
i.e. the policy's one-step lookahead value with cost-to-go exceeds by at most . (No minimality of over any control set is hypothesized — only this inequality.)
Conclusion: for every and every state ,
where is natural subtraction (no truncation occurs since ) and the sum runs over the integer interval , which is empty when (giving ). The proof is left as sorry.
Confirmed by the mission captain (proposal self-audit).
