Let PPP be a correct oblivious randomized player for ttt rounds, mmm balls, and hand capacity bbb. For any request sequence and any positive-probability run aaa of length qqq,

mt≤(b+2)qmultichoose⁡(q,t)bt.m^t\le (b+2)^q\operatorname{multichoose}(q,t)b^t.mt≤(b+2)qmultichoose(q,t)bt.

The left side counts all request sequences; the right side bounds those served by the hidden histories compatible with the run's visible pattern. This is the counting statement used to obtain the logarithmic lower bound.

Formalization Note The printed proof instead gives bq(b+2)q>mtb^q(b+2)^q>m^tbq(b+2)q>mt and infers q>tlog⁡b(b+2)mq>t\log_{b(b+2)}mq>tlogb(b+2)m. Both fail for m=b=q=2m=b=q=2m=b=q=2, t=7t=7t=7, when a two-access oblivious run serves all 128128128 requests but the printed product is 646464. The displayed weak inequality uses the corrected fixed-run count and keeps the paper's non-strict round-end convention.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
