Let k\Bbbkk be R\mathbb RR or C\mathbb CC (an instance of Mathlib's RCLike), let HHH be an inner-product space over k\Bbbkk (no finite-dimensionality is assumed), let ι\iotaι be a finite index type, let a:ι→Ra:\iota\to\mathbb Ra:ι→R, and let u:ι→Hu:\iota\to Hu:ι→H with ∥ui∥=1\|u_i\|=1∥ui∥=1 for every iii, and v∈Hv\in Hv∈H with ∥v∥=1\|v\|=1∥v∥=1. Write

weightedHilbertObjective(a,u,v)  =  ∑i∈ιai ∥ui−v∥2\mathrm{weightedHilbertObjective}(a,u,v) \;=\; \sum_{i\in\iota} a_i\,\|u_i-v\|^2weightedHilbertObjective(a,u,v)=i∈ι∑ai∥ui−v∥2

for the weighted sum of squared distances from each uiu_iui to vvv, and weightedHilbertSum(a,u)=∑iai ui\mathrm{weightedHilbertSum}(a,u)=\sum_i a_i\,u_iweightedHilbertSum(a,u)=∑iaiui. Then

weightedHilbertObjective(a,u,v)  =  2(∑iai−Re⁡⟨weightedHilbertSum(a,u), v⟩k),\mathrm{weightedHilbertObjective}(a,u,v) \;=\; 2\Big(\sum_i a_i - \operatorname{Re}\big\langle \mathrm{weightedHilbertSum}(a,u),\,v\big\rangle_{\Bbbk}\Big),weightedHilbertObjective(a,u,v)=2(i∑ai−Re⟨weightedHilbertSum(a,u),v⟩k),

where ⟨⋅,⋅⟩k\langle\cdot,\cdot\rangle_{\Bbbk}⟨⋅,⋅⟩k is the inner product of HHH.

This closed form expresses the objective purely through the weighted sum ∑iaiui\sum_i a_iu_i∑iaiui and its inner product with vvv. This is exactly the algebraic shape needed to compute the objective's minimum over vvv ranging on the unit sphere of HHH.

# Variational minima for the Bregman--Mazur argument

This file proves two reusable parts of the variational layer. First, a
pointwise two-sided comparison transports to attained global minima, even
when the two objectives are indexed by different but equivalent spheres.
Second, the weighted squared-distance objective on a Hilbert unit sphere has
the exact minimum used in the Schatten argument.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
