Let λ>0\lambda>0λ>0 be the information cost. The DM's optimal accuracy A⋆(μ)A^\star(\mu)A⋆(μ), as a function of her prior belief μ\muμ that the state is good, is convex on [0,1][0,1][0,1]:

A⋆((1−t)μ1+tμ2)≤(1−t)A⋆(μ1)+tA⋆(μ2)for all μ1,μ2,t∈[0,1].A^\star\big((1-t)\mu_1+t\mu_2\big)\le(1-t)A^\star(\mu_1)+tA^\star(\mu_2)\qquad\text{for all }\mu_1,\mu_2,t\in[0,1].A⋆((1−t)μ1+tμ2)≤(1−t)A⋆(μ1)+tA⋆(μ2)for all μ1,μ2,t∈[0,1].

Convexity is what turns the split of the prior by the machine's output into an accuracy gain via Jensen's inequality.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
