Let q≥1q\ge1q≥1, let bbb be a nonnegative integer coprime to qqq, and let N≥1N\ge1N≥1 be an integer. For every Dirichlet character χ\chiχ modulo qqq, suppose a nonnegative number EχE_\chiEχ satisfies

∣ψ(K,χ)−1χ=χ0K∣≤Eχ(0≤K≤N),|\psi(K,\chi)-\mathbf1_{\chi=\chi_0}K|\le E_\chi\qquad(0\le K\le N),∣ψ(K,χ)−1χ=χ0K∣≤Eχ(0≤K≤N),

where ψ(K,χ)=∑n<KΛ(n)χ(n)\psi(K,\chi)=\sum_{n<K}\Lambda(n)\chi(n)ψ(K,χ)=∑n<KΛ(n)χ(n) and χ0\chi_0χ0 is the principal character. Define S(α,N)=∑n<NΛ(n)e(αn)S(\alpha,N)=\sum_{n<N}\Lambda(n)e(\alpha n)S(α,N)=∑n<NΛ(n)e(αn), DN(β)=∑n<Ne(βn)D_N(\beta)=\sum_{n<N}e(\beta n)DN(β)=∑n<Ne(βn), τ(χ)=∑r<qχ(r)e(r/q)\tau(\chi)=\sum_{r<q}\chi(r)e(r/q)τ(χ)=∑r<qχ(r)e(r/q), and let ω(q)\omega(q)ω(q) count the distinct prime factors of qqq. For every real β\betaβ,

∣S ⁣(bq+β,N)−μ(q)φ(q)DN(β)∣≤(1+2πN∣β∣)(1φ(q)∑χ mod q∣τ(χ)∣Eχ−1+ω(q)log⁡N).\left|S\!\left(\frac bq+\beta,N\right)-\frac{\mu(q)}{\varphi(q)}D_N(\beta)\right|\le(1+2\pi N|\beta|)\left(\frac1{\varphi(q)}\sum_{\chi\bmod q}|\tau(\chi)|E_{\chi^{-1}}+\omega(q)\log N\right).S(qb+β,N)−φ(q)μ(q)DN(β)≤(1+2πN∣β∣)φ(q)1χmodq∑∣τ(χ)∣Eχ−1+ω(q)logN.

The error profile remains explicit for each character, including the principal character. This is a finite transfer theorem, not a proof that the character errors are small. It includes modulus one and separates the contribution from integers not coprime to the modulus.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
