Write Rep⁡\operatorname{Rep}Rep for a representation n2n=∑kak2ak\frac{n}{2^n}=\sum_k \frac{a_k}{2^{a_k}}2nn=∑k2akak by pairwise distinct positive integers aka_kak (Erdős Problem 261). Theorem. Let q=2m+1−m−2q=2^{m+1}-m-2q=2m+1−m−2. If n2n=∑k∈Sk2k\frac{n}{2^n}=\sum_{k\in S}\frac{k}{2^k}2nn=∑k∈S2kk for a finite set SSS with q∈Sq\in Sq∈S and S∩{q+1,…,q+m}=∅S\cap\{q+1,\dots,q+m\}=\varnothingS∩{q+1,…,q+m}=∅, then S′=(S∖{q})∪{q+1,…,q+m}S'=(S\setminus\{q\})\cup\{q+1,\dots,q+m\}S′=(S∖{q})∪{q+1,…,q+m} also satisfies n2n=∑k∈S′k2k\frac{n}{2^n}=\sum_{k\in S'}\frac{k}{2^k}2nn=∑k∈S′2kk, and ∣S′∣+1=∣S∣+m|S'|+1=|S|+m∣S′∣+1=∣S∣+m.

The rewrite replaces one term by a Borwein–Loring block. The reverse rewrite lowers the number of terms by m−1m-1m−1, so it terminates.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
