nnn-bit approximation of eze^zez on the unit disc

Proved
IntMul.HvdH.expBits_bound

by xuanji · Oct 11, 2026 · Mathlib 0df444a (Lean v4.33.1)

integer-multiplication

Let n≥0n\ge0n≥0 and let x,y∈Zx,y\in\mathbb Zx,y∈Z with ∣x+iy∣≤2n|x+iy|\le 2^n∣x+iy∣≤2n, so that z=2−n(x+iy)z=2^{-n}(x+iy)z=2−n(x+iy) lies in the closed unit disc. Let u+ivu+ivu+iv be the Gaussian integer computed by expBits n x y (fixed-point Taylor series with floor rounding at precision 2n+92n+92n+9, then rounding to precision nnn; see IntMul_HvdH_ExpApprox). Then

∣2−n(u+iv)−ez∣≤2−n.\bigl|2^{-n}(u+iv)-e^{z}\bigr|\le 2^{-n}.2−n(u+iv)−ez≤2−n.

This is the fact used in §2.8 of Harvey–van der Hoeven that eze^zez can be computed to nnn bits for zzz in a fixed bounded set (here the unit disc).

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
