Let one group G\mathfrak GG act on every domain Ωj\Omega_jΩj and Ωj′\Omega'_jΩj′ (j≥0j \ge 0j≥0), and on signals by (g.x)(u)=x(g−1u)(\mathfrak g . x)(u) = x(\mathfrak g^{-1}u)(g.x)(u)=x(g−1u). Suppose

  1. every layer Bj:X(Ωj,Cj)→X(Ωj′,Dj)B_j : X(\Omega_j, C_j) \to X(\Omega'_j, D_j)Bj:X(Ωj,Cj)→X(Ωj′,Dj) is G\mathfrak GG-equivariant;
  2. every σj:Dj→Ej\sigma_j : D_j \to E_jσj:Dj→Ej is an arbitrary map, applied element-wise;
  3. every pooling Pj:X(Ωj′,Ej)→X(Ωj+1,Cj+1)P_j : X(\Omega'_j, E_j) \to X(\Omega_{j+1}, C_{j+1})Pj:X(Ωj′,Ej)→X(Ωj+1,Cj+1) is G\mathfrak GG-equivariant;
  4. the global pooling A:X(Ωn′,En)→YA : X(\Omega'_n, E_n) \to YA:X(Ωn′,En)→Y is G\mathfrak GG-invariant.

Then the blueprint network

f=A∘σn∘Bn∘Pn−1∘⋯∘P0∘σ0∘B0:X(Ω0,C0)→Yf = A \circ \boldsymbol\sigma_n \circ B_n \circ P_{n-1} \circ \cdots \circ P_0 \circ \boldsymbol\sigma_0 \circ B_0 : X(\Omega_0, C_0) \to Yf=A∘σn∘Bn∘Pn−1∘⋯∘P0∘σ0∘B0:X(Ω0,C0)→Y

is G\mathfrak GG-invariant, for every number n+1≥1n + 1 \ge 1n+1≥1 of layers.

This is the invariance claim of the book's Geometric Deep Learning Blueprint.

Formalization Note The book's box requires the poolings PPP only to map to a coarser domain, not to be equivariant; without equivariance of PPP the composite need not be invariant, so condition 3 is added. The box also allows different blocks to use different groups; this statement uses a single group. Indices run from 000 to n=J−1n = J - 1n=J−1 instead of 111 to JJJ.

/-- Bronstein et al., §3.5, p. 29 (the Geometric Deep Learning Blueprint, corrected): with one
group `G` acting on every domain, if every layer `B j` and every pooling `P j` is
`G`-equivariant, every `σ j` acts element-wise, and the global pooling `A` is `G`-invariant, then
`f = A ∘ σ_J ∘ B_J ∘ P_{J−1} ∘ … ∘ P_1 ∘ σ_1 ∘ B_1` is `G`-invariant (here `J = n + 1`, indices
from `0`). The printed box does not require the poolings `P` to be equivariant. -/

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
