This statement shows that a compactly supported cutoff converts local L2L^2L2 control into global L2L^2L2 control.

Let n∈Nn\in\mathbb{N}n∈N and let f,χ:EuclideanSpace R (Fin n)→Rf,\chi:\mathrm{EuclideanSpace}\,\mathbb{R}\,(\mathrm{Fin}\,n)\to\mathbb{R}f,χ:EuclideanSpaceR(Finn)→R. Assume that χ\chiχ is continuous and compactly supported. Assume also that, for every compact set SSS, the restriction of fff to SSS belongs to L2L^2L2 with respect to restricted Lebesgue measure:

f∈L2(volume⁡∣S).f\in L^2(\operatorname{volume}|_S).f∈L2(volume∣S).

Then

χf∈L2(volume⁡).\chi f\in L^2(\operatorname{volume}).χf∈L2(volume).

The exponent is the Lean MemLp exponent 222, and the conclusion uses the full volume measure. This is a reusable localization lemma.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
