Let m≥1m\ge1m≥1 be an integer, let α,β∈C∖R\alpha,\beta\in\mathbb C\setminus\mathbb Rα,β∈C∖R (no condition on their moduli), and let c∈Cc\in\mathbb Cc∈C with c≠0c\ne0c=0. For γ∈C\gamma\in\mathbb Cγ∈C put Pγ(X,Y)=Xm(γ+XY)+Ym(γˉ+XY)P_\gamma(X,Y)=X^m(\gamma+XY)+Y^m(\bar\gamma+XY)Pγ(X,Y)=Xm(γ+XY)+Ym(γˉ+XY), as in equation (6), and Cm,γ={z∈C:Re⁡(zm(∣z∣2+γ))=0}C_{m,\gamma}=\{z\in\mathbb C:\operatorname{Re}(z^m(|z|^2+\gamma))=0\}Cm,γ={z∈C:Re(zm(∣z∣2+γ))=0}, so that Pγ(z,zˉ)=2Re⁡(zm(∣z∣2+γ))P_\gamma(z,\bar z)=2\operatorname{Re}(z^m(|z|^2+\gamma))Pγ(z,zˉ)=2Re(zm(∣z∣2+γ)). Let C^m,γ\widehat C_{m,\gamma}Cm,γ be the closure of Cm,γC_{m,\gamma}Cm,γ in the Riemann sphere C^=C∪{∞}\widehat{\mathbb C}=\mathbb C\cup\{\infty\}C=C∪{∞}, and let Dc ⁣:C^→C^D_c\colon\widehat{\mathbb C}\to\widehat{\mathbb C}Dc:C→C be the dilation Dc(z)=czD_c(z)=czDc(z)=cz for z∈Cz\in\mathbb Cz∈C, Dc(∞)=∞D_c(\infty)=\inftyDc(∞)=∞.

Assume that Dc(C^m,α)⊆C^m,βD_c(\widehat C_{m,\alpha})\subseteq\widehat C_{m,\beta}Dc(Cm,α)⊆Cm,β. Then there is k∈Ck\in\mathbb Ck∈C with k≠0k\ne0k=0 such that, as polynomials in C[X,Y]\mathbb C[X,Y]C[X,Y],

Pβ(cX,cˉY)=k Pα(X,Y).P_\beta(cX,\bar cY)=k\,P_\alpha(X,Y).Pβ(cX,cˉY)=kPα(X,Y).

The left side is the pullback of PβP_\betaPβ by z↦czz\mapsto czz↦cz, with XXX and YYY standing for zzz and zˉ\bar zzˉ.

In Theorem 2 an ambient equivalence between the curves is reduced to the forms czczcz, c/zc/zc/z, czˉc\bar zczˉ, c/zˉc/\bar zc/zˉ. This result turns the dilation case into a proportionality of polynomials, from which the ratio in (8) and the condition c2m=1c^{2m}=1c2m=1 in (3) are obtained; the hypothesis is only an inclusion of the spherical closures. Through Theorem 2 it is also used for Theorem 1 and Remark 5.

Formalization Note: the Riemann sphere is the one-point compactification OnePoint ℂ, C^m,γ\widehat C_{m,\gamma}Cm,γ is the topological closure in it, and DcD_cDc is defined pointwise on the sphere.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
