For every real α\alphaα, every q≥1q\ge1q≥1 and every N≥1N\ge1N≥1,

∣∑n<N(n,q)>1Λ(n) e(αn)∣  ≤  ω(q)log⁡N.\left|\sum_{\substack{n<N\\ (n,q)>1}}\Lambda(n)\,e(\alpha n)\right|\;\le\;\omega(q)\log N.n<N(n,q)>1∑Λ(n)e(αn)≤ω(q)logN.

This is the error term of the major-arc identity for S(α,N)S(\alpha,N)S(α,N) at a reduced fraction b/qb/qb/q, bounded uniformly in α\alphaα. It shows that replacing S(b/q,N)S(b/q,N)S(b/q,N) by its character expansion over the reduced residues costs at most ω(q)log⁡N\omega(q)\log Nω(q)logN, which is O(log⁡qlog⁡N)O(\log q\log N)O(logqlogN) and therefore invisible next to the main term.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
