Let GGG be a finite simple graph and let DDD be a geometric arc drawing of GGG. Then there is an ordinary polygonal drawing D′D'D′ of the same graph such that

∣crossingSet⁡(D′)∣≤localPairCount⁡(D)extandCrossingNumber⁡(G)≤localPairCount⁡(D).|\operatorname{crossingSet}(D')|\le \operatorname{localPairCount}(D) \qquad ext{and}\qquad \operatorname{CrossingNumber}(G)\le \operatorname{localPairCount}(D).∣crossingSet(D′)∣≤localPairCount(D)extandCrossingNumber(G)≤localPairCount(D).

Thus every geometric arc drawing can be replaced by a polygonal drawing whose crossing set, and hence the graph's minimum crossing number, is controlled by the local pair count of the original drawing.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
