Kronecker–Weber for multiquadratic fields. Let KKK be a number field which is Galois over Q\mathbb{Q}Q and whose Galois group G=Gal(K/Q)G = \mathrm{Gal}(K/\mathbb{Q})G=Gal(K/Q) has exponent dividing 222, i.e. σ2=1\sigma^2 = 1σ2=1 for every σ∈G\sigma \in Gσ∈G (so G≅(Z/2)rG \cong (\mathbb{Z}/2)^rG≅(Z/2)r and KKK is a multiquadratic field Q(d1,…,dr)\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{d_1},\dots,\sqrt{d_r})Q(d1,…,dr)). Then KKK embeds into a cyclotomic field: there is an integer n>0n > 0n>0 and a Q\mathbb{Q}Q-algebra homomorphism

K↪Q(ζn).K \hookrightarrow \mathbb{Q}(\zeta_n).K↪Q(ζn).

This is the exponent-222 case of the Kronecker–Weber theorem, which follows from Kummer theory over Q\mathbb{Q}Q (such KKK is generated by square roots of rationals) together with the fact that every rational number is a square in some cyclotomic field (quadratic Gauss sums and 2=ζ8+ζ8−1\sqrt{2} = \zeta_8 + \zeta_8^{-1}2=ζ8+ζ8−1).

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
