Agarwal–Cooley reindexing. Let s1,…,sd≥1s_1,\dots,s_d\ge1s1,…,sd≥1 be pairwise coprime, S=s1⋯sdS=s_1\cdots s_dS=s1⋯sd, and let ε:Z/S→∏iZ/si\varepsilon:\mathbb Z/S\to\prod_i\mathbb Z/s_iε:Z/S→∏iZ/si be the Chinese-remainder isomorphism k↦(k mod s1,…,k mod sd)k\mapsto(k\bmod s_1,\dots,k\bmod s_d)k↦(kmods1,…,kmodsd). Let RRR be a commutative ring and F,G∈R[x]F,G\in R[x]F,G∈R[x] with deg⁡F+deg⁡G<S\deg F+\deg G<SdegF+degG<S. Then for every 0≤j<S0\le j<S0≤j<S,

[xj] (FG)=∑b∈∏iZ/si[xε−1(b)]F⋅[xε−1(ε(j)−b)]G,[x^j]\,(FG)=\sum_{b\in\prod_i\mathbb Z/s_i}[x^{\varepsilon^{-1}(b)}]F\cdot[x^{\varepsilon^{-1}(\varepsilon(j)-b)}]G,[xj](FG)=b∈∏iZ/si∑[xε−1(b)]F⋅[xε−1(ε(j)−b)]G,

where exponents in Z/S\mathbb Z/SZ/S are read as their representatives in [0,S)[0,S)[0,S).

So the coefficients of FGFGFG are the entries of the ddd-dimensional cyclic convolution of the arrays F′=F∘ε−1F'=F\circ\varepsilon^{-1}F′=F∘ε−1 and G′=G∘ε−1G'=G\circ\varepsilon^{-1}G′=G∘ε−1. These are steps (1)–(2) of Proposition 5.4: since deg⁡H<S\deg H<SdegH<S, the product may be computed modulo xS−1x^S-1xS−1, and the ring isomorphism Z[x]/(xS−1)≅Z[x1,…,xd]/(xisi−1)\mathbb Z[x]/(x^S-1)\cong\mathbb Z[x_1,\dots,x_d]/(x_i^{s_i}-1)Z[x]/(xS−1)≅Z[x1,…,xd]/(xisi−1), x↦x1⋯xdx\mapsto x_1\cdots x_dx↦x1⋯xd, is a relabelling of coefficients.

Formalization Note ε\varepsilonε is Mathlib's ZMod.prodEquivPi, and deg⁡\degdeg is natDegree (so deg⁡0=0\deg 0=0deg0=0).

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
