This is Corollary 4 of the note: a lower bound for L(n)L(n)L(n) from a finite abelian group.

Let n≥3n \ge 3n≥3 and m1,m2≥1m_1, m_2 \ge 1m1,m2≥1 be natural numbers, and let G=Zm1×Zm2G = \mathbb{Z}_{m_1} \times \mathbb{Z}_{m_2}G=Zm1×Zm2. Suppose that C1,…,Cn−1⊆GC_1, \dots, C_{n-1} \subseteq GC1,…,Cn−1⊆G are sumfree in GGG (x+y∉Cix + y \notin C_ix+y∈/Ci for all x,y∈Cix, y \in C_ix,y∈Ci, including x=yx = yx=y) and that every nonzero element of GGG lies in at least one CiC_iCi. Then

L(n)≥m1m2,L(n) \ge m_1 m_2 ,L(n)≥m1m2,

where L(n)L(n)L(n) is the least positive integer LLL such that every sequence AAA of positive integers with ∣A∣=L|A| = L∣A∣=L and average μ(A)≤n\mu(A) \le nμ(A)≤n satisfies sdeg⁡(A^)≥n\operatorname{sdeg}(\hat A) \ge nsdeg(A^)≥n (Definition 5.1 of Eliahou and Revuelta).

With n=5n = 5n=5, m1=m2=7m_1 = m_2 = 7m1=m2=7 and the four sets D0,…,D3D_0, \dots, D_3D0,…,D3 of the Values bundle, it gives L(5)≥49L(5) \ge 49L(5)≥49. For comparison, the lower bound of Proposition 5.3 of the paper at n=5n = 5n=5 is S(4)+1=45S(4) + 1 = 45S(4)+1=45, where S(4)=44S(4) = 44S(4)=44 is the Schur number.

Formalization Note The note assumes that C1,…,Cn−1C_1, \dots, C_{n-1}C1,…,Cn−1 partition G∖{0}G \setminus \{0\}G∖{0}; the Lean statement only asks that they cover the nonzero elements, a weaker hypothesis. The conditions m1,m2≥1m_1, m_2 \ge 1m1,m2≥1, which the note takes from Lemma 3, are explicit hypotheses. L(n)L(n)L(n) is erL n of the Basic bundle.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
