Let P={x∈Rd:ai⋅x≤bi, 1≤i≤n}P=\{x\in\mathbb R^d:a_i\cdot x\le b_i,\ 1\le i\le n\}P={x∈Rd:ai⋅x≤bi, 1≤i≤n} be nonempty and bounded. Suppose an invertible linear change of coordinates and a partition of all describing rows identify PPP with independent factors Pj⊆RdjP_j\subseteq\mathbb R^{d_j}Pj⊆Rdj, each described by njn_jnj rows, where dj≤nj≤dj+3d_j\le n_j\le d_j+3dj≤nj≤dj+3. All combinations of factor points must be feasible; the row identities certify an actual Cartesian product.

Choose c∈Rdc\in\mathbb R^dc∈Rd and define ai′=ai+bica'_i=a_i+b_i cai′=ai+bic. Suppose there are nonnegative weights μi,νi\mu_i,\nu_iμi,νi satisfying

∑iμiai=−c,∑iμibi<1,∑iνiai′=c,∑iνibi<1.\sum_i\mu_i a_i=-c,\qquad \sum_i\mu_i b_i<1,\qquad \sum_i\nu_i a'_i=c,\qquad \sum_i\nu_i b_i<1.i∑μiai=−c,i∑μibi<1,i∑νiai′=c,i∑νibi<1.

Then the polyhedron Q={y∈Rd:ai′⋅y≤bi}Q=\{y\in\mathbb R^d:a'_i\cdot y\le b_i\}Q={y∈Rd:ai′⋅y≤bi} satisfies

diam⁡edge(Q)≤n−d.\operatorname{diam}_{\mathrm{edge}}(Q)\le n-d.diamedge(Q)≤n−d.

There is no bound on total excess, number of factors, or repair-support deficit. The criterion includes products hidden by a positive projective transformation, even when the target normals do not split into independent linear blocks. The chart and factorization are supplied and certified; their existence for arbitrary polyhedra is not asserted.

Formalization Note Dimension and row partitions are explicit equivalences. Stationary steps permit padding to exactly n−dn-dn−d steps, with natural subtraction. The certificate checker uses rational data; the theorem permits real coefficients.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
