Let n≥1n\ge1n≥1 and let the buyer valuations vi(θ)=ciθ+div_i(\theta)=c_i\theta+d_ivi(θ)=ciθ+di on [0,1][0,1][0,1] satisfy ci/2+di=1c_i/2+d_i=1ci/2+di=1 and 2≥d1≥⋯≥dn≥02\ge d_1\ge\cdots\ge d_n\ge02≥d1≥⋯≥dn≥0. Every feasible utility vector u∈U(v,[0,1])u\in U(v,[0,1])u∈U(v,[0,1]) is coordinatewise bounded by the utilities of an ordered partition into possibly empty intervals:

0=a0≤a1≤⋯≤an=1,ui≤∫ai−1aivi(θ) dθ(i=1,…,n).0=a_0\le a_1\le\cdots\le a_n=1,\qquad u_i\le\int_{a_{i-1}}^{a_i}v_i(\theta)\,d\theta\quad(i=1,\ldots,n).0=a0≤a1≤⋯≤an=1,ui≤∫ai−1aivi(θ)dθ(i=1,…,n).

This replaces an arbitrary fractional allocation by an ordered interval allocation that gives at least the requested utility to each buyer.

Formalization Note The requirement n≥1n\ge1n≥1 makes the two endpoint equations consistent. Lean buyer iii corresponds to the paper's buyer i+1i+1i+1.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
