Let n>0n>0n>0, let CCC be an n×nn\times nn×n cost matrix, and let σ\sigmaσ be a permutation. The scaled permutation matrix PσP_\sigmaPσ has transport cost equal to the assignment objective:

⟨C,Pσ⟩=1n∑i=1nCi,σ(i)=AC(σ).\langle C,P_\sigma\rangle=\frac1n\sum_{i=1}^{n} C_{i,\sigma(i)}=A_C(\sigma).⟨C,Pσ⟩=n1i=1∑nCi,σ(i)=AC(σ).

This identifies the objective of the combinatorial assignment problem with the linear objective used in its transport relaxation.

Formalization Note The condition n>0n>0n>0 excludes division by zero; Fin n indexes the same nnn entries starting at zero.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
