For a prime ppp and N≥1N\ge1N≥1, the number of powers of ppp below NNN is at most ⌊log⁡pN⌋\lfloor\log_p N\rfloor⌊logpN⌋:

#{n<N:n=pk for some k≥1}  ≤  log⁡pN.\#\{n<N: n=p^{k}\ \text{for some }k\ge1\}\;\le\;\log_p N.#{n<N:n=pk for some k≥1}≤logpN.

Combined with Λ(pk)=log⁡p\Lambda(p^{k})=\log pΛ(pk)=logp this gives ∑pk<NΛ(pk)≤log⁡N\sum_{p^{k}<N}\Lambda(p^{k})\le\log N∑pk<NΛ(pk)≤logN — the statement that each individual prime contributes at most log⁡N\log NlogN to Chebyshev's function, uniformly in ppp.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
