This formalizes the derivative representation of posterior cumulants used in Lemma 4.3 of Bizeul–Klartag–Lehec (arXiv:2610.05474v1), cited there for cumulant dynamics.

Let EEE be a complete finite-dimensional real inner-product space, let μ\muμ be a compactly supported probability law, let c∈Ec\in Ec∈E, let Q:E→EQ:E\to EQ:E→E be continuous linear, and let m≥1m\ge1m≥1. Then the mmmth cumulant tensor of the compact posterior equals the mmmth iterated derivative in the linear parameter ccc of the log-partition function:

κm(μc,Q)=Dcm[y↦ψ(y,Q)](c).\kappa_m(\mu_{c,Q}) = D_c^m\bigl[y\mapsto\psi(y,Q)\bigr](c).κm(μc,Q)=Dcm[y↦ψ(y,Q)](c).

In Lean, the derivative is iteratedFDeriv ℝ m and the cumulant is Analysis.BakryEmery.cumulant. This identity is the deterministic bridge between posterior cumulants and smooth parameter calculus.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
